“Elderly adults can see improvement from vibration machines,” Livestrong.com reports in a 2015 article. “Bone mineral density can increase in older women who use the machines. Elderly patients also can experience improved muscle strength and balance and lessen the risk of falling.”
The health and fitness website said that healthy individuals also can get benefits from vibration training, but that it should be used to complement other types of exercise.
“These machines do provide benefits, but those able to engage in traditional exercise should, for best results,” Livestrong.com stated. “The American Council on Exercise recommends that whole-body vibrating fitness routines be used in addition to traditional exercise, not in place of it.”
It’s also important to use proper technique when using a vibration training machine.
“Using the vibration platform properly is very important for good results,” the ,” Livestrong.com report added. “Just standing on the platform is not likely to provide much benefit. Exercises like pushups and situps need to be performed while on the platform for optimal benefits. It is helpful to have trained personnel instructing exercisers on good form.”
It’s estimated that about half the NFL teams use vibration training machines, with increased flexibility and injury prevention a big reason they use them.
These machines are so versatile, though, that lots of senior citizens and rehab centers use them as well. Celebrities, college and high school athletes and even average every day people exercise on them as well.
Everyone can find their own value in vibration training, whether it’s strength training, flexibility and/or massage. Some people even use vibration trainers to help treat chronic health problems.
